An Alpine paradise in Austria
The Nordkette mountains are part of the Karwendel Alpine range which spreads across southern Germany and much of the Austrian Tyrol region. It’s perfectly located for you to appreciate and explore during your trip to Innsbruck.
Often referred to as the “Jewel of the Austrian Alps”, Nordkette is a sublime Alpine oasis. When you’re exploring the city, you’ll be able to take in its soaring peaks from all around.
The mountains are also easily accessible if you’d like to immerse yourself further in their mesmerising scenery. The first stage via funicular will get you to the Hungerburg station from where you’ll hop on a cable car to Seegrube. This is 1,905 metres (6,250 feet) above sea level.
And it doesn’t stop here! Continue your way up with another cable car to Hafelekar. This peak stands 2,256 metres (7,401 feet) above the sea.
From any of these stations, you’ll be rewarded with a sprawling panorama of the Inn Valley and city below, as well as the landscape on the horizon. From the top, you’ll feel like a mountaineer, as you spot the peaks of the Alps all around.
In winter, Nordkette transforms into a snowy wonderland, enticing skiers and snowboarders.
