One of Northern Italy's most impressive religious buildings

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is affectionately known as “Duomo di Como” (or Como Cathedral in English). It is the main site of worship in the city of Como and so holds an important place in the community.

During your time in Como, make sure to come admire the cathedral’s exterior or take some time to explore inside. You’ll soon see why it is one of the most important religious landmarks in northern Italy.

The construction of the cathedral started in the 1300s. But you’ll soon see that its architecture spans different styles and centuries. That is because only its imposing façade was built in the late 1400s. Different details, such as statues, frescoes and its dome, were added later on.

Today it stands as a testament to centuries of Italian architectural mastery. The duomo is a masterpiece that you won’t regret adding to your itinerary.

Take a stroll through Piazza Duomo, where you could grab a drink or bite to eat in the shadow of the cathedral. Its façade is adorned with intricate carvings and majestic spires that will capture your imagination. Step through its ancient doors to discover a sanctuary of sacred tranquillity and devotion.

For centuries, Como Cathedral has stood as a beacon of faith and cultural heritage, drawing pilgrims and visitors from near and far. Come bask in its timeless splendour and marvel at its architectural wonders.
