Breathtaking mountain range in western Switzerland
The Bernese Alps, also known as the Bernese Oberland, are a region of the Swiss Alps. From the cities of Bern and Lucerne in the north, this area of the Central Alps stretches south towards the town of Brig in the canton of Valais.
Explore the Bernese Alps and you’ll discover jagged peaks, Alpine glaciers, chalet-style towns and villages. What’s more, you can ride world-famous mountain railways, such as the Gornergrat and Jungfraujoch.
While the Bernese Alps are perhaps most well-known for their mountaineering heritage, there’s also plenty of infrastructure for hiking, cycling and skiing.
Don’t worry if thrilling outdoor activities aren’t for you though. Road trips, train journeys and gondola rides are just some of the more comfortable ways you could take in the jaw-dropping views.
