Legendary mountain peak with expansive views
Deep in the Alpine heart of Europe is Lake Lucerne, Switzerland’s fourth biggest lake. The water here is surrounded by breathtaking mountains, but the most impressive of them all is Mount Pilatus.
Pilatus’s highest peak, Tomlishorn, is an astonishing 2,128 metres (6,983 feet) above sea level. Don’t worry though, you don’t need to be an athlete to climb to the top! In summer, the world’s steepest cogwheel railway transports travellers into the clouds.
From the Pilatus Kulm viewing point, take in the mesmerising view of the sky, mountaintops and lakes. Explore thrilling hiking trails alongside herds of wild ibex goats and try to spot the tiny towns far below.
Dine with a view at a restaurant on the peak and experience a spellbinding sunset. In winter, snowy weather halts the railway, but Pilatus Kulm can still be reached by panoramic gondolas.
Mount Pilatus has been a renowned destination since the early 19th century, and it’s not hard to see why! For a truly awe-inspiring trip, make sure to include this summit in your visit to Switzerland.
